"The Macedonian Call"

"And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; there stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, come over into Macedonia, and help us." (Acts 16:9)

The Macedonian call is the response of a Christian believer to some need.  Its name derives from the vision of Paul as he sought the leading of the Holy Spirit. Twice he was rebuffed as he sought to invade virgin areas for Christ's call.  Then in the night came a vision.  A man of Macedonia cried out, "Come over into Macedonia and help us."  Taking this to be the mandate of the Holy Spirit he obeyed.

"Life" it has been said  "is made up of sobs, sniffles and smiles with sniffles predominating."  That is not so when we are going through our personal storms or crises in life.  We sob more than we smile.

There are a lot of people, Christian and non-Christians crying out to believers in Jesus Christ saying, "Come over into Macedonia, and help us."  These are our neighbors. They are our brothers and sisters who have a need.  They call to us who are comfortable and privileged to come and to help them.

In a conversation with a friend about how we serve in church, I responded to her, "It isn't only what we do in church that counts, it is also about the service we provide others after church!"  Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-40, "For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hunger, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Who are you feeding?  Who are you clothing?  Who are you visiting in prison?  Are you visiting the sick and shut-in?  Who are you praying for?  What sacrifice or donation are you making to help someone in need?  Who are you sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with through your acts of love?

Let us all examine ourselves, for Jesus said, "In asmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."Be Blessed!
