"STARS AND PLANETS" |
"I will also give them the Morning Star" (Revelations 2:28) Any star in the heavens shines by it's own light. Every plant shines by the reflected light of some star. The Sun is such a star. From it the plants Mercury, Venus, Earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto get their light. What is the difference you may ask between a star and a plant? As I understand it, a star is a fixed body of light. A planet moves, revolves about a star. It comes from the Greek Planetai literally 'wanders." In Revelations 2:28 the writer concludes his message to the Church at Thyatira with the words, "I will also give them the Morning Star." The Morning Star? Yes that is a poetic name for Jesus. They hymn writer puts it this way, "Near the Cross a Trembling soul, Love and Mercy found me There the bright, the Morning Star shed it beams around me." The Morning Star Jesus is in his own word the Light of the World. The Morning Star Jesus is as the gospel of John pens it the lie that "brought Light to mankind. The Light that shines in the darkness and the darkness has never put it out" (John 1:4,5). The Morning Star Jesus is the Light that turned Zacchaeus from gold to God. The Morning Star Jesus is the light that flooded the heart of Mary Magdalene with divine brightness. The Morning Star Jesus is the Light that led the dying malefactor from perdition to paradise. The Morning Star Jesus is the Light that one-day illuminated my sin-darkened heart. He became for me "the light that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." Behold Him in His infinite beauty. Become more and more like Him. He is light. He is Love. He is Lord. The Late A. Roger Williams "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God..." (I John 4:7) |
