Many people with more zeal than knowledge have told me the Holy Spirit is an influence.  A lot
of Christians even refer to The Holy Spirit as "it."  Others have thought of the Holy Spirit as
an intangible indefinable essence.  But the question many people also ask, "Who is the Holy
Spirit?"  The Holy Spirit is the One who bears witness of Jesus Christ.  Jesus said himself in
John 15:26, "But when the Comforter is come he shall testify of me."  The Holy Spirit abides in
the Christian's heart.  In John 14:14 Jesus said, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give
you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever."  I must say this is not some
misty pervasive essence.

In the gospel of John 14:26, Jesus said "He shall teach you all things and bring all things to
your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you…" and finally in John 16:14 Jesus said
the Holy Spirit "he shall glorify me."

Some theologians suggested that the Acts of the Apostle could well be titled the Acts of the
Holy Spirit.  Those who study the Acts of the Apostles marvel at the marking of the Holy Spirit
working through the entire book.

In Chapter 5:3-4 Peter equates the Holy Spirit with God when he asks "Ananias why has Satan
filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?  You have not lied to men but to God."  In Acts 13:3,
the Holy Spirit said, "Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called

One of the nineteenth century preachers by the name of D. L. Moody was like a Billy Graham
to us today.  A group of ministers were discussing the possibility of engaging him in a citywide
revival.  Not all agreed.  One young minister asked: "Why Moody, does he have a monopoly on
the Holy Spirit?  After a period of silence an elderly minister replied, "No he does not have a
monopoly on the Holy Spirit: but the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on D. L. Moody.

Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost.  In Acts Chapter 2, the Holy Spirit filled the lives of
120 humble servants of God.  They went out to make the name of Jesus a household word.
They turned the world upside down.  Why, because the Holy Spirit had a monopoly on their lives.

Does the Holy Spirit have a monopoly on your life?  Are you available for His orders?

Be Blessed
