| Pastor Thelma Gilbert is recognized as a competent, qualified and well-trained teacher, leader, pastor and servant. Her teaching and creative abilities are worthy of emulation. Her style is one of clarity, capturing her audience with bold, vivid descriptions interwoven with wisdom and insight. She is well prepared, disciplined, cheerful and confident. Pastor Gilbert is known as an advocate for people of all ages who are oppressed, suffering, and heartbroken from the many social ills of our society. As an acclaimed teacher, seminar speaker, and preacher, Pastor Gilbert’s God given gifts, talents, and services are sought not only within the state of Connecticut but across the United State. Pastor Gilbert received her Batchelor of Science degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College, Manchester N.H., and her Master of Arts degree in Lay Ministries from Hartford Seminary, Hartford, CT. She served one-year internship in Clinical Pastoral Counseling at the West Hartford Counseling Center, West Hartford, CT. She completed Advance Classes in Clinical Pastoral Counseling offered by Saint Francis Hospital on Octoberl 2008. Pastor Thelma Gilbert is the Founder and CEO of Pastoral Resource Ministries, Inc. (PRM), and Pastor of The Living Word Worship Center (TLWWC), both of Bloomfield, CT. On April 8, 2006, Pastor Gilbert was installed senior pastor of the church by Bishop William G. Bennett, Pastor of Upper Room Baptist Church, of Brooklyn, New York and Bishop of Western New York District of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship where Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. serves as the International Presiding Bishop. PRM and TLWWC were also ratified on the same day. She is a former employee of the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She worked as an Organizational Skill & Development Consultant and Project Manager for the Office of Organizational and Skills Development Department for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services. Pastor Gilbert is a certified Instructor for the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention (CSMBC) Congress of Christian Education. Pastor Gilbert is a member of the Interdenominal Ministeral Alliance (IMA) of Hatford Ct and hold the position of the IMA Scholarship Chair. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Pastoral Counseling Center of West Hartford located in West Hartford Ct. Pastor Gilbert served as the President of the Commission On Women In Ministry of the CSMBC, Board Member of Housing One Corporation, Recording Secretary of the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention’s Parent Body and a former member of the Hartford Seminary Alumni/ae Council. As former president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Hartford CT – (1987 -1989), the Northends Agent established by John Allen, published many of Pastor Gilbert’s articles on various topics under the title, “The Alliance Speaks.” During the year 2005, the same newspaper serving the Hartford area and vicinity published more of Pastor Gilbert articles entitled “A Missionary Thrust” for the sick and shut-ins. Pastor Gilbert served as host and keynote speaker of Pastoral Resource Ministries Radio Broadcast, WNEZ 1480 AM during 2005 - 2006. 1987—“First Woman President” of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Great Hartford; 1996—“First Woman Pastor” voted into full membership of the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention; 1997—a recipient of the “Humanitarian Award” from the Greater Hartford Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc; May 2000—“Significant Ministry Award” by Hartford Seminary. March 2003 - Certified Instructor, National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Department of Christian Education; September 2003 – “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Sons of Thunder Coalition. She has received numerous distinguished service and leadership awards from religious and secular organizations. Under Pastor Gilbert’s leadership, Pastoral Resource Ministries implemented Pastoral Resource Ministries Christian Education Training Institute, on January 31, 2004. Pastor Gilbert is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She has two children and five grandchildren. One of Pastor Gilbert's favorite scriptures is - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). |
